Mirror Moon
All around the globe, in all times and in every culture the moon is praised through temples, observatoria and artworks.

The Moon is connected to many rituals on our planet. Its regular pattern, episodic colour events and eclipses have become important markers in our history. Even though we all see the same moon its appearance changes depending on your location on Earth. Compared to the Moon in Amsterdam it seems to be tilted, mirrored or changed colour. Arnout Meijer’s Mirror Moon takes the ritual significance of this heavenly body and connects it to different rhythms and points of view from around the world.

The etched glass Moons are linked to real-time phases of the Moon as seen from different positions on Earth in order to create together a new dynamic cycle. The work reminds us that we see something different from where we are standing, but in the end, it’s the same Moon.

This artwork depicts the mesmerizing cycle of the Moon and connects the numerous local Moons on Earth
